Ostensibly set in Europe, Darkness to Dawn was more likely filmed near the New York headquarters of the Great Northern Film Company. The story concerns one Count Joachim, whose downfall has been carefully planned by his treacherous cousin. "Accidentally" shot, the Count recuperates in the home of British aristocrat Mr. Herbert, where the hero falls in love with Herbert's beautiful daughter. After the Count and the girl are married, the wicked cousin cooks up a scheme to convince Joachim that his new bride is unfaithful. Enlisted in this scheme is a drunken gamekeeper, who claims to have had an illicit affair with the heroine. Only in the final scene does the Count learn the truth, at which point he contritely begs the woman's forgiveness.
