The romantic team of Francis X. Bushman and Beverly Bayne (who had just married the year before) star in this melodrama about the recently ended world war. It's 1914 and war hasn't broken out yet when American Hugh Brown (Bushman) is traveling through the Alsace. He finds a young girl, Louise de Villars (Bayne), being manhandled by a German soldier and rescues her. They fall in love, but the war intervenes. Brown joins up with the French army and becomes an aviator. He shoots down 30 German aircraft before his plane is brought down behind enemy lines. Louise manages to see him at the prison camp and slips him a note that explains how to reach her chateau, if he is able to escape. The German officer, who wants Louise himself, becomes suspicious and transfers Brown to a different camp. Brown escapes, only to be captured at Louise's home. Louise offers herself to the officer in order to save her lover, but as soon as she gets the paper freeing Brown, they both head for the Holland border. The chateau holding the Germans is blown up the day the armistice is signed, and the happy couple is married in a trench by an American chaplain.
