The Sadean pen of Oniroku Dan reunited director Shogoro Nishimura and S & M queen Naomi Tani from the same year's successful Kuro Bara Fujin for this memorable excursion into bizarre sexual discipline as only Japan can present it. Tani stars as Kanako, who runs into her female ex-lover Tomoe (Aoi Nakajima) at an exhibition of her husband's paintings. Eventually, Kanako learns that Tomoe is taking lessons on becoming a "female dog" for the eccentric artist's BDSM interests. The idea appeals to Kanako, so she decides to learn to be a good doggie as well. When Kanako's husband (Katsu Yamada) finds out what's going on, he gets so mad that he throws her in a local dump, but eventually puts a leash on her and begins to appreciate his new pet. Well-directed and convincingly played, the film manages to walk the fine line between the nauseating misogyny of Japan's appalling "turtle girl" films and the outright silliness of American and British "pony girl" efforts, presenting a reasonable introduction to the oft-misunderstood world of erotic discipline.
