Released on the same reel as A Russian Heroine, this Pathe short subject represents one of the few times that Russian novelist Count Leo Tolstoy ever stepped before a movie camera. The film follows the Count around his palatial state, then accompanies him on a short visit to his friends. Adding unexpected poignancy to the film is the fact that Tolstoy died not long after its completion. Evidently, Count Tolstoy served as the source for all existing film footage of its subject. As such, it has been seen many times since in countless theatrical and TV documentaries.
