Produced by an Anglo-Dutch firm, this silent melodrama was the second and last teaming of Chilean-born actor-producer-writer-director Adelqui Millar and American Evelyn Brent. Badly made with Dutch exteriors that bore no resemblance whatsoever to the London apparently depicted in Millar's screenplay, Circus Jim was typical of the poor domestic fare presented to British audiences in the immediate post-World War I era. Miss Brent, who was earning 30 pounds a week, later stated that she was only paid this relatively well because of prior experience in American films.
