The suggestion that the camera is a tool and a weapon is proven in the work done by filmmaking collective, the Chiapas Media Project. Over the past six years, they have shown themselves to be one of the most effective, progressive, and proactive media organizations in the world. Their work in Mexico with the indigenous communities of Chiapas, Guerrero, and other states has facilitated knowledge, unity, and political awareness on an international scale.
Recently returned from Mexico, CMP has three new works from the filmmaking collectives of the people. The Sacred Land, Education in Resistance, and Defending the Forests: The Struggle of the Campesino Environmentalists of Guerrero all deal with the struggles of the indigenous communities, and the human rights violations perpetrated upon them by the Mexican government.
