This Italian docudrama is a trifle too long at 80 minutes. Still, the photography by Gustav Lantschner is riveting throughout, even when nothing much is happening. Writer/director Severino Cesara casts himself as a mountain climber, determined to conquer a treacherous Alpine Peak. He is joined in this mission by another climbing enthusiast, Walter Cavallini. No mountain-climbing movie has ever been able to truly capture the excitement or euphoria of the "real thing," though this one comes awfully close. Never afforded an American theatrical release, Cavaliere della Montagna did manage to make the Late Late Show rounds in the 1950s.
