Although she had been acting in films in her native Holland for a good part of the 1910s, this version of +Carmen was the first time American audiences got a chance to see Annie Bos. Moving Picture World described her as having "beauty of a rather heavy type," and she never really caught on in the States. The film follows the original story of +Carmen pretty closely. Joseph lives in a small country town with his mother and his sweetheart, Mary. But when he is assigned military police duty in another town, he meets Carmen (Bos), a cigarette girl, and forgets about everything else. He arrests her after she has attacked another girl with a pair of scissors, but it isn't long before she has vamped him and convinced him to let her go free. Because of his actions, Joseph is dishonorably discharged, but he doesn't care, just as long as he can be with Carmen. She tires of him soon enough and weds Dalboni, an opera singer. Joseph jealously tries to kill her and is imprisoned for two years. The ever-forgiving Mary waits for him and they are reunited upon his release.
