Ceuta is a Spanish coastal city with a population of 75,000 and an unusual political status -- while still an official part of Spain, Ceuta is politically autonomous, with a president and parliament of its own. Ceuta's geography puts it in a difficult position, literally coming between Africa and Europe, and it stands as a final outpost for Africans looking to enter Europe as their homelands fall into political instability and economic chaos. Filmmaker Herman Asselberghs offers an impressionistic portrait of a tiny enclave that symbolizes the schism between two continents in the documentary Capsular. Capsular was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
