Head west out of Louisiana, through the Atchafalaya Basin, across Whiskey Bay, and the traveler will land in Cajun country. People gather on Saturday mornings in towns such as Eunice and Mamou to eat boudin and attend the all-day fais do dos, which start at Fred's and end at the Y-Ki-Ki Lounge. This PBS documentary captures the fun-loving Cajun culture on film. The French language is heard; dance and laughter, food and beer drinking are everywhere in evidence. Forced out of French Arcadia in Canada by the British, the Cajuns have found a new home in the bayous and marshy wetlands of western Louisiana. Interviews, film footage, photographs, and of course, music are featured in this episode of American Patchwork.
