Caballito Criollo (Native Pony) is predicated upon Argentina's national obsession with polo. Set some years back, the film recounts the emergence of polo as the number-one Argentine sport, concentrating on truculent horse breeder Enrique Munro. In typically chauvinistic fashion, the screenplay ignores the fact that it was Argentina's British and Irish settlers who were largely responsible for improving the polo-pony stock. The supporting cast is variable, but the performances of the ponies can't be faulted. Despite its rather limited appeal, Caballito Criollo was given a brief U.S. release.
