Burglar for a Night was described by Variety as a "typical" J. Warren Kerrigan picture, which probably meant that such intangibles as a logical plot line and character development were absent. In fact, it was enough for Kerrigan's fans (especially his lady fans) if he merely showed up onscreen. In this one, the popular leading man played Kirk Marden, a turn-of-the-century adventurer who turns "crook" out of love for the heroine. Of course, Kirk is no crook at all, but the police don't know that...and the chase is on. The film's biggest surprise was the fact that Kerrigan's favorite leading lady, Lois Wilson, was nowhere to be found.
