When a child is born with severe physical problems, the parents must decide whether to give permission for a host of medical procedures, or to simply let the baby die. It is a cruel choice for a family that has looked forward to the arrival of a healthy infant. Many people have an opinion, and the parents hear from medical professionals, who give informed advice, and relatives, whose thoughts may be more emotional. In Born Dying, the voices of others are heard, including the mother of a disabled child. Ethical and religious issues come into play, as the parents struggle with their feelings about what is best for the baby.
