Variety noted that Bonds of Passion was "presumably" filmed in Sweden, though it was more likely produced in Denmark, the home of Nordisk studios. The heroine is seduced and rendered pregnant by a young man, who stoutly refuses to set things right by marrying her. Unable to find work in any "decent" profession, the girl becomes a stage dancer (and, from all accounts, a very sexy one). Though ardently pursued by many a stage-door Johnny, the girl refuses to accept their hospitality, preferring instead to take care of her young son. Even after the boy is killed in a freak accident, the heroine refuses to consider marriage, hoping against hope that the man who "ruined" her will someday return to make her his wife. This hardly seems likely, since by now her seducer is a hopeless alcoholic. Finally wising up, the girl lives happily ever after as the wife of a nobleman. The film's story line may well have been inspired by the early Peter Urban Gad-directed erotic melodrama Afgrunden.
