Yoichi Higashi follows up on his critically acclaimed Village of Dreams with this family drama about a troubled teenager and his equally troubled uncle. Twenty-nine-year-old Koji Kawaguchi (Michitaka Tsutsui) has thoroughly remade himself from a country boy, hailing from the southern provincial city of Kumamoto, into a fashionable Tokyo professional with a job in a hip graphic design company and an elegant live-in girlfriend named Rin (Miho Tsumiki). Lately, though, things haven't been working out too well for him. His boss trashed his latest project and his girlfriend is about ready to dump him if he doesn't make a commitment. Then he hears from his brother Shoichi (Yoichiro Aoi) that not only has their father died, but that Koji's 14-year-old nephew Tatsuya (Takahito Hosoyamada) tried to rob a post office with a large knife. Koji returns to Kumamoto as Tatsuya is released by the police. The two eventually forge a bond. This film was screened at the 2000 Berlin Film Festival.
