This archaic but historically important three-reel "Western" produced by the pioneering Edison Company starred Leonie Flugrath, whom the company billed as "The Remarkable Girl Actress." Flugrath played Dorothy Ward, a child of nature who, against her father's wishes, falls for a dashing hunter. The dour father drives the hunter away and sends the girl to live with wealthy relatives. Tiring of life among the swells, Dorothy returns to the Maine woods, where she is promptly abducted by an Indian. To the rescue comes the dashing hunter, and the two are finally permitted to marry. Young Leonie Flugrath changed her name two years later to Shirley Mason and became a popular ingenue with Fox. She is perhaps best remembered for Treasure Island (1920). Blade o' Grass is preserved in the George Kleine Collection.
