This Fox programmer was an effective, well-made crime drama. Although Marjorie Langdon (Peggy Hyland) comes from a good family, financial circumstances force her to seek employment, and she becomes a companion to Janet Fordyce (Correan Kirkham). Janet has a sweetheart, Chester Barnard (Henry J. Herbert), and Marjorie instinctively does not like him. Barnard brings a hypnotist to a party held by the Fordyces, and during the festivities it becomes obvious that Janet is very susceptible to hypnotic suggestion. With the hypnotist's help, Barnard begins putting Janet in a trance and sending her out to steal jewelry. Every time she steals, she takes the goods to a fence and uses Marjorie's name. Eventually Marjorie is accused of taking a necklace from Mrs. James (Estella Evans). Although Marjorie denies it, she refuses to reveal the real thief, who she knows is Janet. It takes Janet's brother, Duncan (Albert Roscoe), to solve the crime -- he discovers Barnard putting his sister under hypnosis. Barnard is caught while trying to make off with a ruby, and Duncan proposes to Marjorie.
