When Margaret Anderson began publishing the Little Review in 1914, her motto was "making no compromises with the public taste." She embarked on a search for outstanding writers, and exposed readers to the works of Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, Djuna Barnes, and Emma Goldman, among many others. Beyond Imagining follows her progress as she serializes Ulysses by James Joyce, which resulted in her trial for obscenity in 1918. Despite the lack of financial backing, Anderson kept to her standards. This program was nominated for an Academy Award.
