The Campania region of Italy has long been a hub of local agriculture known for its beautiful countryside, but in recent years that has begun to change. Campania has become home to a growing number of illegal toxic waste disposal centers, and as more hazardous waste is dumped into the once-fertile soil, farmers have discovered they can't grow the crops that once flourished there, while ranchers who have raised sheep for generations find their animals are now dying. As Campania is turning into a shadow of its former self, many local residents have demanded the law intervene, but as it happens the town has only one official who deals in environmental law, and while he makes a valiant effort, with over a thousand illegal dumps in Campania, it's all but impossible for him to bring the polluters to justice. Filmmakers Esmeralda Calabria, Andrea D'Ambrosio and Giuseppe Ruggiero examine the struggle to save Campania and the how the community became a center for illegal waste disposal in the documentary Buitiful Cauntry (aka Beautiful Country), which received its world premiere at the 2008 London International Documentary Festival.
