Perpetually bounced between indifferent parents, young Roger Baxter (Scott Jacoby) arrives in London to live with his mother, who barely registers his presence. Further isolated by a speech impediment, Baxter feels desperately alone in a strange city. Fortunately, his speech therapist, Dr. Roberta (Patricia Neal), takes a special interest in him, and he befriends a French chef, also named Roger (Jean-Pierre Cassel), who becomes his surrogate brother and partner in sadness.
