Popular Greek comedian Thanassis Vengos toplines this successful comedy that sharply criticizes the social conditions of the time by means of a biting screenplay from writer/director Theodoros Marangos. Vengos plays Thanassis, a dedicated truck driver who works his fingers to the bone in order to put his sister Aphrodite (Anna Mantzourani) through medical school. He hopes that after she completes her studies, Aphrodite will get married so that Thanassis can finally settle down with his own beloved (Anna Vayena). Unfortunately, all of Thanassis' efforts to get ahead are met with resistance from the corrupt Athenian government. The film addresses everything from pollution to health care, and veers from comic satire to mean-spirited jeremiad in a manner reminiscent of Lindsay Anderson on an off day. Nevertheless, the film struck a resonant chord with viewers, and contained enough humor to get its message across without turning off too many people. Takis Miliadis co-stars with Yiorgos Velentzas and Kostas Fyssoun.
