An Unopened Letter was one of the last two-reel dramas produced by the Edison company. A young law clerk marries "beneath his station," then begs his wife to keep their union a secret until he earns his partnership in the legal firm. Alas, by that time, the long-suffering bride has died in childbirth. Unaware of this, the husband sends a letter to his wife, telling her it's okay to acknowledge the marriage. The letter is intercepted by the dead woman's sister, who refuses to open it, or to inform the husband that he's become a father. Twenty years later, the husband, now a prominent attorney, takes on the case of a young woman who has been injured in an on-the-job accident. Sure enough, the victim turns out to be the lawyer's long-lost daughter, who has grown up to be the spitting image of her late mother. A tearful reconciliation is inevitable.
