Just because the Pathe company was headquartered in France didn't stop its staff from churning out Westerns. The central character in An Indian's Gratitude is a Native American whose life is saved by a white man. The hero returns the favor by warning the local white settlement of impending attack from his own tribe. As a result, he is tracked down and killed by his fellow tribesmen, but not before leading them on a merry chase through hill, dale, and raging river. Though the topography in An Indian's Gratitude was decidedly European, the film was praised for its realism.
