Edison's All's Fair in Love apparently offered few surprises to the jaded filmgoers of 1909. A young man falls in love with a pretty girl who can't stand the sight of him. Undauntedly, our hero goes to Herculean lengths to win the heroine's heart. Finally her resistance is worn down, and she says "Yes" to his proposal of marriage. The laughs engendered by the film were full-bodied, albeit predicated on tried-and-true situations. The trade magazine Variety reviewer okayed the film but carped that it ran to "considerable length" (probably a whole 14 minutes!)
