This low-key but compelling documentary looks at one summer in the life of Algiermaa, a nine-year-old girl from Mongolia. Algiermaa's parents send her to a boarding school, but she spends the summers on her family's ranch on the Mongolian plains, where she helps tend the cattle and has become an expert horsewoman. Over the summer, Algiermaa trains for an upcoming horse race, and learns a great deal about herself as well as the equestrian arts. Algiermaas Aventyr was first shown in the United States at the 2000 Mill Valley Film Festival.
