The Edison company was responsible for this first cinematic adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures of Wonderland. This being a silent picture, Carroll's delightfully nonsensical prose fell by the wayside. This being only a one-reel picture, most of the colorful characters in the original novel were likewise jettisoned. What remained was faithful in spirit to Carroll, and in design to the John Tenniel illustrations. Variety complimented the picture by comparing it favorably to the "foreign" film fantasies then glutting the market.
