This British film from Charles Urban's Eclipse company was released at the same time as Pathe's Aviation Contest at Rheims. Of the two, the Eclipse release was better, or so thought the film critic of the trade magazine Variety. Singled out for praise was the photographic clarity of the Eclipse film, especially important in "actuality" pictures of this nature. Both films concluded with a race between a heavier-than-air flying machine and one of those newfangled dirigibles. Like its Pathe counterpart, Aeroplane Contest at Rheims has since been cannibalized for stock footage by TV-documentary producers.
