The costuming and character behavior in Adventures of a Beggar led the trade magazine Variety reviewer to conclude that the film had been produced in England. The titular beggar is targeted for persecution by a group of mischievous boys who attach a one-horse dray carrying empty hogsheads to the beggar's ramshackle wagon. As the dray takes off in the opposite direction, the poor beggar is dragged along for the ride. What might have been an amusing "chase" comedy was reportedly spoiled by the obvious fakery in the exterior scenes. Running only two minutes, Adventures of a Beggar is less a film than an anecdote.
