America’s first documentary to look at aging solely from the view points of women is definitely no just for women, providing provocative and disturbing questions for men to ponder as well. After interviewing more than 20 women, filmmaker Michal Aviad chose six subjects in their sixties and seventies to examine some of the realities women face as they grow old: body changes, feelings of isolation and dismissal, financial struggles, sexual vitality, the hope for new relationships, and desire for community involvement.
The wonder of these six women that they lead utterly ordinary lives. No super-women here. But, by the generosity in opening up their lives and speaking with candor and unpretentious insight, they become remarkable as they illuminate Acting Our Age with their humanity.
