After he graduates from college, instead of pursuing work as a civil engineer, Dixon Lee (Bill Gettinger) prefers to waste his life drinking and partying. He wants to marry Teddy Ransom (Olive Fuller Gordon), but her father, Hiram Ransom (William Canfield), wants him to prove himself first. So Lee is sent to Mexico to work with one of Ransom's construction gangs. Jose Morilla, the province's governor (Joe Rickman) is accepting bribes from the gang foreman, and they want Lee out of the way. With the help of dance hall girl Nina de la Guerra (Peggy Coudray), they encourage Lee to revert to his old carousing ways. But even though he's drinking, Lee sees enough of what's going on to frighten the foreman. Because of the lies the foreman feeds Ransom, Lee gets fired. Teddy runs away to Mexico and Lee, followed by her father. She finds her sweetheart in jail, courtesy of Morilla, and asks some sympathetic Indians to help break him out. The captain of the Texas Rangers gets involved, and he saves Teddy and Lee from an onslaught of Morilla's men. When Ransom sees how devoted Lee and Teddy are, and that Lee really is trying to earn his right to the girl, he gives the union his blessing.
