John Blake (Frank Smith) is a well-to-do merchant during New York City's early days. His son Andrew (King Baggot) is having a romance with Evelyn (Edna Hunter), and he does not approve of the match. The causes a rift between father and son, and eventually, to please his father, Andrew marries Luthia Hoenmaker (Jane Gail), a girl who had once saved his life. But Luthia discovers that Andrew doesn't love her so she runs away. She is kidnapped by her wicked father (Ned Reardon) and brother (Harry Gripp), who plan to get a big ransom out of Andrew. Andrew tracks down the Hoenmakers with some detectives, but the son knocks him unconscious. Thinking that he is dead, the Hoenmakers set fire to the cabin where Andrew is lying and try to escape. They are captured by the detectives, however, and Andrew is pulled alive from the burning building. He dashes back into save Luthia and realizes, finally, that he loves her after all.
