It was with no small irony that Thomas Edison, who spent most of his life chasing after "smaller" inventors whom he believed were infringing upon his many patents, was the producer of the one-reel drama A Stolen Claim. The story concerned a valuable gold mine, and the efforts made by the villains to claim the gold for themselves. The climax was particularly exciting, with one of the main characters rising from a sickbed and wandering toward a steep cliff, from which, for reasons that made sense only within the context of the film, he jumped to his death. The critic for Variety felt that the story line was worthless, but lavished praise upon the gorgeous Canadian scenery.
