This 61-minute Russian documentary offers the American viewer rare if hardly revelatory glimpses of the Soviet capital. The narrative is somewhat haphazard, jumping from one image to the next with little feeling of continuity. Still, many of the images are fascinating, especially an apparently real traffic accident and the follow-up treatment provided by an overworked Muscovite doctor. Some propaganda expectedly seeps through -- but then, American filmmakers were also capable of rearranging the facts, as witness 1957's This is Russia. English-language prints of A Day in Moscow were equipped with narrative subtitles.
