Follow Me: The Yoni Netanyahu Story NR

2012 ▪ History [Nf] ▪ 84 Minutes

Directed by Ari Daniel Pinchot, Jonathan Gruber. Starring Ehud Barak, Benjamin Netanyahu, Tuti Netanyahu, Shimon Peres, and Tirza "Tutti" Goodman.

On July 4, 1976, Lt. Col. Yonatan Netanyahu (brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) sacrificed his own life to save the lives of 103 hostages being held in a Ugandan airline terminal. Although the tragedy of that loss would be devastating for his family, friends, and fellow soldiers, miraculously, he was the only soldier killed in the daring nighttime raid. In this documentary, filmmakers Ari Daniel Pinchot and Jonathan Gruber allow Yonatan's own writings to tell the story of a hero whose inner conflict offered a unique perspective on a war that began long before he was born, and still rages on decades after his death. Actual audio from the operation offers a vivid glimpse at a defining moment in history, and for the first time ever, Yonatan's ex-wife speaks candidly about the man behind the soldier. Additional interviews with three Israeli Prime Ministers offer insight into both Yonatan's character, and the volatile political situation that led to his death.
